We are an unabashed “older” church. That is, most of our congregation is comprised of individuals age 50 and above. As such, the majority of us are in the 4th quarter of life - This is exciting! We like to think of ourselves as the “Finishers”. We embrace this role with Gusto! We are fully aware that the those, particularly in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of life, are watching us. We believe our job is to live before the face of God as men/women who are seeking peace with all men and holiness. We believe that our heavenly Father will bring those to our fellowship who desire to join our ranks, learn, and grow with us. We are delighted that some of that movement is already underway. We want to be an example – we want to blaze a trail for those who are coming after us!!
A scribe came to Jesus wanting to know which
commandment was the most important of all. So, Jesus answered him the following
way: Jesus answered, “The most important is, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God,
the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with
all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this:
'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater
than these.” (Mark 12:29-31) The ancients thought of the heart as the organ of the
mind, the soul as the very breath of being or life, and the mind as the seat of all
desire. He, Jesus, essentially told this scribe that what you give to God cannot be
called love unless it's offered with your “entire” being! We teach, and attempt to
live in front of each other the kind of love God here requires. This keeps us on our
knees asking God's help to do what He has asked. We at Ford River Community
Chapel are fellow servants seeking to love God. If loving God, in the way He
expects, is something you long to do – come join in with us as we are on that same
journey!
We desire to live godly lives as we relate to one
another. Emblazoned on the front of our weekly bulletin are the following words:
“At Ford River Community Chapel we are learning how to be, who we're supposed
to be, in all our relationships!” There's a way to be, do, and act in every human
encounter. Although we don't think sinless perfection is possible; we do think
showing proper affection, kindness, boundaries, and care is achievable in all our
connections with others. As we live with this type of connectivity we are modeling
to the world how God intends His children to live. Perhaps we are sparking a
hunger for the kind of lifestyle some desire who are not yet in the camp.
Although we're a merry band of just about 65-70
believer's, we are very missionary minded! Presently, we are supporting 10
missionary efforts. We have boots on the ground in Egypt, Alaska, Mexico, and
Thailand. We have 2 missionaries still in training intending to go to Papua New
Guinea and Togo West Africa respectively. We have our hand in 2 local missions
in L'Ance and Felch Mi, one sending agency, and a missionary operation that greatly
aids the work in Israel. God said, Go ye therefore – and we're trying!
